Projects in the mountain villages of Solu-Khumbu, Nepal Schools So far, the construction and running of four schools in the Shorong area of Solu-Khumbu have been financed by the members and sponsors of Association Lorraine - Népal and Rheinland - Lorraine - Nepal: The school of Salabesi has been inaugurated in 1998. In 2000, two additional class-rooms have been added and furnished. The school of Tumbuk is meant for the children of Takto and Tumbuk. It has been inaugurated on 1 November 1998 and comprises two class-rooms. The teachers are paid by Association Lorraine - Népal. The school of Charghare has been opened on 15 July 2001. It is meant for the children of three viallages belonging to three different ethnic groups: Sherpas, Newars and Magars. The school of Phera has been inaugurated in 2001. It has been financed by the Lions Club of the the fifth region of Alsace.
The health centre of Salabesi is situated close to the school building. It has been financed and equipped by Association Lorraine - Népal, and it was inaugurated in April 2000. The installation of solar collector panels allows the utilization of a refrigerator to conserve the medicine and to light the building. The health centre of Ringmo is situated below the pass of Takshindu at about 3,000 meters. It has been opened in 2001, and serves the population of the villages on both sides of the mountain pass.
A library at the Buddhist school of Phukmoche has been financed by Rheinland - Lorraine - Nepal. It is meant to support the preservation of Sherpa culture and religion.
